Tochovice château is a Classicist château in the village of the same name, approximately fifteen kilometres south of Příbram. The château has been a protected immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. In the first half of the 13th century a manor was built on the site of the present château by the Benedictine monastery of St John the Baptist at Ostrov nad Davlí. Between 1436 and 1515 the manor was pledged to the Zmrzlík of Svojšín family. It then reverted to the Benedictines, and in 1532 Abbot Placidus sold the Tochovice manor with its farm, the market town of Tochovice, and all its appurtenances to the knight Jan of Vitenec. The indebted estate was purchased in 1548 by Jiří of Lokšan, the owner of nearby Březnice. His grandson Václav had half his property, including the farm, brewery, and the market town of Tochovice, confiscated in 1622 for his participation in the Bohemian Estates' uprising; from 1623 the new owner of Tochovice was Přibík Jeníšek of Újezd. The Jeníšek of Újezd family held Tochovice until 1728, and when their line died out without male heirs, the Tochovice estate was inherited by Count Vilém Albrecht Krakowský of Kolowrat. In 1808 the ownership of Tochovice passed to Dorothea, widow of the Duke of Courland Biron, from whom it was inherited by her daughter Dorothea, married Talleyrand de Périgord. From her, in 1815, Josef Count Vratislav of Mitrovic purchased Tochovice for his wife Gabriela. It was around this time that a Classicist château was built on the site of the former manor. After Gabriela Desfours's death, Tochovice was inherited by her daughter Josefína, married to Prince Karl II. of Schwarzenberg, the owner of Orlík. The Schwarzenbergs then held the château until 1949, when it was nationalised. Arnošt Schwarzenberg is cited as the last owner before 1949. From 1950 the State Farm Tochovice operated at the château. Under the restitutions of the 1990s the château was returned to Anna Bucherová, daughter of Arnošt Schwarzenberg. In 2014 her children inherited the Tochovice property. The château building and the administrative building now serve residential purposes. The farm complex is used for horse breeding. The château and park are not open to the public.
