About the data

Methodology

The inventory is collected in nested rings: a broad harvest of heritage sites from OpenStreetMap and Wikidata, filtered to castles, manors, châteaux and palaces, de-duplicated by location and name, with ownership estimated. A curated public subset of privately-owned sites is open to everyone; the full research corpus — every harvested site — is available to signed-in researchers.

Licence & attribution

OpenStreetMap-derived rows are © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0). Reuse requires attribution under the ODbL.

Wikidata-derived rows are released under CC0 1.0 (public domain, no attribution required).

Every export — bulk or per-record — carries this attribution block in its envelope.

How to cite

Cite an individual record with its upstream source identifiers so the reference resolves to the original OpenStreetMap / Wikidata records:
