Near Beroun lies the village of Tmaň, formed by two residential clusters; the natural centre of the older northern cluster is the château. This was preceded by a Gothic manor documented as early as the 14th century. The earliest known owner was the vladyka Albert; thereafter the owners changed frequently. Worthy of mention is Vilém Jaroslav Greifenfels of Pilsenburg, who in the second half of the 17th century converted the old manor into a four-wing château of trapezoidal ground plan with a façade in a Renaissance style and a Marian chapel. The Tmaň château subsequently underwent very few changes. Under Count Bedřich Des Fours a Baroque mansard roof was added and the south façade was supplemented by a two-storey rectangular tower with a dome. In later times a farm building and a park with numerous pavilions and water basins were associated with the château. Between 1862 and 1945 the Noltsch family farmed at Tmaň; after the Second World War the château was nationalised and administered for a time by, for example, the Museum of Czech Literature. In the early 1990s the state offered the château for sale; today the complex is owned by the company Zámek Tmaň s.r.o., which has converted it into a residential home for senior citizens.
