The village of Pravonín in the Benešov district was founded by a member of the lesser nobility. It soon passed to the Premonstratensian nunnery at Louňovice pod Blaníkem, which was dissolved at the beginning of the Hussite Wars. The manor at Pravonín was built in 1569 by Jindřich Kekule of Stradonic. The fief status of the estate was ended by Emperor Rudolf II in 1578, when he transferred Pravonín into the hereditary freehold of the sons of Jindřich Kekule. Among the later owners worth mentioning is Jan Ignác Caretto of Millesimo, who remodelled the Renaissance manor into a Baroque chateau, and Jan Václav Vejvoda of Stromberg, who enlarged it with the addition of two new wings, bringing it essentially to its present form. A significant owner of Pravonín was the music-loving Jan Pachta of Rájov, who in 1832 hosted the composer Richard Wagner here for several months. After 1945 the chateau passed to state ownership, which maintained it poorly, and the deterioration continued under private owners after 1997. Eventually, in a practically emergency state, the Kladno company Thermogas Profibau purchased it in 2020 and commenced a restoration.
