The small hamlet of Otín in the Klatovy region was from the High Middle Ages the seat of a modest estate. The first to write themselves from here were the vladykas Jeniš and Oldřich; in the mid-16th century the more significant Kanicti of Čachrov, who sometime after the mid-16th century transferred their residence from an earlier Gothic seat into a newly constructed Renaissance manor. In 1675 Otín was joined to the neighbouring estate of Předslav. After the Příchovský of Příchovic family, the Janovský of Janovice followed, and from among them František Adam had the Renaissance manor extended with a Baroque southern wing. In 1809 the Prague lawyer Dr Jan Měchura took over the estates of Otín-Předslav and carried out further significant alterations to the chateau — the most conspicuous of which was the construction of a gloriet. The significance of Otín grew to literally national dimensions when on 16 September 1827 Měchura's daughter Terezie married the later regional historiographer and "Father of the Nation" František Palacký here. Palacký frequently stayed at Otín (and reportedly wrote parts of his "History of the Czech Nation in Bohemia and Moravia" in the gloriet). After Jan Měchura, his son Leopold Eugen Měchura, the musical composer, continued in possession. Private owners succeeded one another until 1950, when the state assumed the chateau. In 2018 the neglected complex was purchased by the Czech company Simargard, s.r.o. (owner Daria Krstev), which commenced a restoration.
