In the Křemešník highlands between the towns of Jindřichův Hradec and Pelhřimov lies the village of Libkova Voda with its chateau. Throughout the Middle Ages this village, belonging to the nearby Božejov estate, appeared in written sources only on account of the local parish church, and it is unlikely that there was any manorial seat here. As late as 1785 only a demesne farm is mentioned. Only after 1803, when a Mr Schwarz of uncertain identity purchased Libkova Voda from the owners of the Horní Cerekev estate and it thereby became an independent farm, did the need arise to build a residence. This was inserted into the farmstead complex and bore distinctly Empire features. Whether the builder of the chateau was Schwarz himself or his successor Leopold Srnka — who added Vlásenice, likewise with an Empire chateau, to Libkova Voda — is uncertain. Srnka was an art lover; in 1841 he invited Bedřich Smetana to stay at the chateau. In 1851 the chateau was purchased by Baron Karel Komers von Lindenbach, whose descendants resided here until 1902. Franz Humal followed, and thereafter owners changed rapidly. Between 1936 and 1949 the chateau was owned by Eduard Slavík. He was the last private owner; the chateau was subsequently nationalised and transferred to the management of the State Farm Pelhřimov. In 2024 the chateau was purchased by the Matějček family, who established the joint-stock company Zámek Libkova Voda a.s. for this purpose. In 2025 they plan to commence a three-phase restoration of the complex.
