The village of Cítoliby lies immediately to the south of the town of Louny. The village formerly contained a manor house dating from the mid-16th century, which was later remodelled as a Baroque chateau; and during one of the alterations to the adjoining chateau park, when a large water reservoir was created, a Baroque water tower was also erected — probably after 1717 — to supply the chateau with water. The first direct mention of the water tower dates only from 1727, and the first visual record of its appearance is a veduta of 1812. The pumping station finally ceased to function in the 1920s, when an orphanage was established there. The spaces gradually served as a club room. The former water tower is a three-storey, tower-like building of square plan that narrows towards the top. On the northern wall, a small entrance annex extends to the height of the first floor; the eastern wall has no windows; the southern and western walls are of two-bay composition. The structure is of masonry construction and the hipped roof is covered with fired plain tiles. In the ground floor, traces have been preserved of the installation of a water wheel that drove a pump which conveyed water to the tank on the upper storey. Although nothing of the technical equipment has survived owing to several remodelings and changes of function, the building represents a significant architectural monument of late Baroque origin. The water tower stands as an independent structure at the edge of the former chateau park — now Tyršovo náměstí — surrounded by Baroque sculpture. It has been a listed monument since 1958. It is today in private ownership and, under the supervision of the current owners Marie and Miloš Kánský, its interiors are undergoing restoration.
