Boskovice château was built between 1819 and 1826. It has been a listed monument since 1958, and since 1964 the entire château complex, including the park, has been entered on the register of immovable cultural monuments. On the site of the present Boskovice château there formerly stood a Dominican friary with a church, founded by the then owner of the Boskovice estate, Jan Bohuš of Zástřizl, together with his wife Zuzana Kateřina Prakšická. Construction was completed in 1694. In 1690 the Boskovice estate passed to František Walter of Dietrichstein (1664–1738), who between 1729 and 1733 built a costly château residence near the centre of the town of Boskovice, which then served as the manorial seat until the construction of the new Boskovice château. In 1784 Emperor Joseph II dissolved the Dominican friary here, and the following year the Dietrichsteins purchased the empty building and set up a manufactory in its premises. After 1819, under František Xaver Dietrichstein, a radical conversion of the friary range into a new château was undertaken. The building, sensitively set within the large grounds of an open English-style park, was completed in 1826. The result was one of the most charming Empire-style châteaux in Moravia, which has maintained its stylistic purity to the present day. The project of the conversion was probably the work of Josef Esch. During the subsequent building phase of 1831–1839, the interior of the château was remodelled, with particular attention given to its monumental entrance section with its three-flight staircase. The last significant alteration to the château was occasioned by an accident in 1916, when the courtyard wall of the west wing collapsed under excessive structural loading. Following this incident, the courtyard arcades were secured with anchors and bricked up. In 1850 the Boskovice Dietrichsteins died out in the male line, and the estate passed after František Xaver Dietrichstein to his youngest daughter Terezie Rosa Františka (1823–1856), who in 1843 married Alfons Friedrich Count Mensdorff-Pouilly. Terezie died in 1856 and her inheritance thus became the property of the Mensdorff-Pouilly family. In 1952 the entire family's property was confiscated. In the second half of the 20th century the château housed the Boskovice District Museum and was also used as a secondary-school dormitory. Under the restitution law the majority of the property, including the château, was returned to the Mensdorff-Pouilly family in 1991. Part of the Boskovice château remains open to the public.
