The imposing five-bay, three-storey Georgian Frybrook House stands as one of the most impressive buildings in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. Henry Fry, an Edenderry merchant, established it as his family home in 1753 after being invited by Lord Kingston to develop a weaving business in the area. The residence features a hipped slate roof with cut-stone chimneystacks and sits at the end of a sweeping avenue surrounded by three acres of grounds. Original Georgian elements include high ceilings, delicate cornicing, timber flooring, an imposing staircase, marble fireplaces, cast iron radiators, roll-top baths, sash windows and shutters. The design employs simple Palladian motifs with a pedimented doorcase and tooled limestone Palladian window in the central bay, distinguished by an oculus window on the second floor. Notably, the house lacks a basement due to proximity to the Boyle river. Following years of vacancy, current owners purchased and meticulously renovated the property in 2018, positioning themselves as custodians of its legacy.
