Curraghmore, the seat of the marquesses of Waterford, is Ireland's greatest surviving estate. The house sits in a wide valley under the Comeragh Mountains in County Waterford, surrounded by Ireland's finest landscaped park. The estate passed to Sir Marcus Beresford on his marriage to the heiress Catherine de la Poer, who was responsible for the magnificent baroque forecourt and a superb Shell House. Their son commissioned an interconnecting suite of splendid reception rooms on the piano nobile from James Wyatt and the facade is dominated by a giant version of the le Poer crest, a stag with a crucifix between its antlers, set high above the parapet. Available as a film location and a venue for concerts, plays and recitals, with garden visits.
